Tokai No. 2

Panicky reports are now circulating about a previously unmentioned and totally unrelated nuclear plant having suffered a failure, and here are just the facts:

Tokai No. 2, a General Electric design BWR5 reactor, experienced a loss of one of its two suppression pool water circulating pumps at the time of the original earthquake; the other pump continued operating normally. The reactor was shut down at the time of the earthquake, with all rods fully inserted. The plant is apparently in forced cooldown and the situation is normal.

This plant is owned and operated by the Japan Atomic Power Company. No troubles or events of consequence have been noted.
