Further details on Fukushima Daiichi nuclear generating station... Details not mentioned are unchanged and should not be considered improved...
-Radiation levels at some points around the site, one mentioned specifically being the front or main gate, have dropped somewhat
-It now appears there is damage to the structure of No. 4 unit's reactor building as the start of the fire first reported yesterday involving spent fuel was in fact a hydrogen gas explosion, not a burn as first reported
-There is a report that suppresion pool temperatures at No. 5 and No. 6 plants is rising. These plants are undamaged. This pair of reactors is placed separately from units 1 through 4 at the same site, and are clearly visible in our earlier aerial photos furnished by TEPCO from their downloads/ public information site section. The amount of temperature increase is not known, and TEPCO's reason for reporting this is not known
-City governments near Fukushima Daiichi are now involved with the Japanese Government's directions to remain indoors, at least where city governments are present and functioning
THESE, then, are the new developments. Conditions otherwise are as reported last evening. We'll be updating ALL DAY today on the situation.
